The good news and the bad.....

So the good news is I am two for two for my goals this week!

I went to the gym yesterday.  (Owwwww).  And I went to weight watchers today.

And that's where the bad news comes in.  My weight is the highest its ever been.  And that makes me feel pretty crummy.  Trying not to let it run my life.  I just have to make some small changes and get back into a healthier lifestyle.

Quickie

So this is the problem with grandiose goals like an everyday blog.

On nights when I don't get home until 10:00 I really have nothing interesting to say.  Will have to work harder at having a couple of topics or drafts going to be able to put something out onto the airwaves that actually means something.

On a happier note I did get to go to the gym today.  Did the New Rules of Lifting for women workout number 1

- Squats
- Push ups
- Cable rows
- Step ups
- Prone Jackknife.

As a result I am very sore right now, and will be even more so tomorrow.  But here's to one day
at a time!

Back to DC

So......has anybody else looked at a weather map?

It's going to get cold.  Very cold.  I drove back to DC today from visiting with my family and did just fine, but everybody is going a little nuts for tomorrow.  Most of the midwest is off school because of low temps, and most of the rest of us on the east coast are battling with freezing rain at the moment.

Lovely right?

Tomorrow morning I need to head over to the JCC and get started doing some form of exercise on a regular basis.  I brought my New Rules of Lifting for Women back from vacay with me, or I could take an exercise class.  I know part of my problem is this wishy washy way I go about making decisions, but I need to really take this one step at a time.  I don't think making myself crazy is the way to go.

Either way I've decided to make a little schedule for the week, see if I can manage to keep to it.

Monday- morning work out
Tuesday- WW meeting
Wednesday- morning work out
Thursday- Agility with Magic
Friday- rest day (may try for morning work out, but Friday's can be tough for me)
Saturday- group exercise class.

We'll see how I do :-)

Motivation

Do any of these phrases apply to you?

"I can't lose weight because I don't have any willpower."

"It's been a hard day, I deserve getting take out dinner"

"I've already had two pieces of pie, might as well finish the whole thing off!"

And yet, everybody who has lost weight successfully will tell you of a moment, a moment where everything just clicked.  And they did it.  I've never had that moment.  The times when I've lost weight in my life have been the times I almost didn't plan on it, it happened through easy changes and interest.  Freshman year of college, where most people gain weight I lost 20 lbs because I joined the crew (rowing) team.  3 years later I lost the weight again because I got into a healthy habit, without really even thinking about it.  I also think I was at one of the most happy times in my life.

Since then its been hard, I lose weight, I gain weight.  It's a pretty awful cycle.

I don't want to make a resolution about weight loss.  Mainly because I've already bitten off more than I can chew and I know it.  But at the same time, I'm planning on walking into that weight watcher's meeting and starting yet again.  And I'm not sure if it will be the moment and the key, or if it will be yet another up again and down again cycle that I'm getting myself into because I'm not in the same headspace as when I was successful.  Until then I'm reading up on motivational websites, ideas and hopefully will be putting together some keys to help me get to the right place.

I'm putting it out there.......let the universe guide me to a good answer.

So where am I with my weight loss?

So, weight loss......

Still spinning my wheels there, within the same 5 lbs that I started at back in April.  I haven't gotten on a scale in a week or two, and don't plan to until next week when I switch my weight watchers to a monthly plan for awhile to give meetings a fair shake.

I believe if I can keep up an everyday blogging habit, I will further document my meals, exercise, and hopefully (crossing my fingers as hard as I can!) some weight loss.

Rules of the Resolution

Impulsiveness may be one of my problems.....

But how many of you out there have turned around to see a blur behind you and wanted to make a quick change? It was January 1st, 2014 yesterday, the perfect time to make a grandiose ridiculous gesture that let's be 100% honest, will be really difficult to complete.

(And might get really boring too)

But there's no better way to try than to just jump in.

On that note, I've decided on some rules (or basically fail-safe's for myself)

1) Obviously it might not be possible to actually post every single day, particularly if I am out of town, or the like.  However, as long as I have a post later for every day that I was out, that is fine.

2) I'm giving myself a 7 day cushion.  So if by one year (assuming of course that I don't give up halfway through the year, but let's think positive!) I have only missed 7 days of blogging I will still consider it a major win

3) If I succeed, I must think of something truly amazing to give myself.....any ideas would be appreciated.

So that's it! I guess I need some luck!

365 days of blogging.

Does it ever scare you how fast time goes?  My last post was over half a year ago, but I still remember it like it was yesterday.  I look behind me and only see a blur.

There are a lot of reputable scientists out there who study this phenomenon, they call it "time perception."  How one minute can pass in the blink of an eye while watching your favorite television show, and last half a day while you are waiting for your toaster to pop.

Today, all around the world, and particularly in the blogosphere people are making New Year's resolutions.  I believe resolutions are mostly made to be broken, but I have what I think is a pretty good one this year.  Be more mindful.  My world is moving too fast now to keep at it the way I have been.  So I am taking a cue from a couple of people smarter than I am and starting a

365 days of blogging challenge

My Granny used to keep a small log of daily happenings so she could reflect on what was going on in her life and today I take a page from her book.

And in the immortal words of Ferris Bueller:

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

More on this to come.  Just wanted to get this in on January 1st :-)
